As part of the Captain Cook Recreation Reserve User Group Sub-Committee 2020, Football Queensland (FQ) South West has contributed to the development of a Proposed Facility Plan 2020 for a Wilsonton District Community Sport, Health and Wellbeing Precinct at Captain Cook Recreational Reserve.
The Captain Cook Recreation Reserve User Group consists of representatives from FQ South West alongside Rockville Rovers FC, SWQ Thunder FC, Toowoomba Cricket Association and the Toowoomba BMX Club.
“It has been fantastic for the Captain Cook Recreation Reserve User Group Sub-Committee 2020 to have the support of Toowoomba Regional Council and Queensland Sport and Recreation in the creation of the Proposed Facility Plan 2020 for a Wilsonton District Community Sport, Health and Wellbeing Precinct at the iconic complex known as Captain Cook Recreational Reserve,” FQ South West President Nigel Fanning said.
“A long-term home to Rockville Rovers as well as an interim home for a number of other community sporting groups including Football QLD South West & SWQ Thunder, the Captain Cook Recreational Reserve currently lacks the appropriate infrastructure to service the Wilsonton community as a sporting and recreational venue.
“The Captain Cook Recreation Reserve User Group has now presented its vision for the redevelopment of the site, acknowledging the vital role it can play in providing a variety of sport, recreation, health and wellbeing activities for the local community.
“We know how much joy football can bring to people of all ages and backgrounds, so we’re confident that the strategic development of the 22-hectare precinct at Captain Cook Recreational Reserve will provide significant health and wellbeing benefits for members of the Wilsonton and surrounding communities.
“Football Queensland South West, alongside the other members of the Captain Cook Recreation Reserve User Group, looks forward to gaining further support from the Toowoomba Regional Council and the State and Federal Governments to establish the Wilsonton District Community Sport, Health and Wellbeing Precinct.”
