FQ South West held their first Girls football fun day for 2017 on Monday 1st May at Captain Cook Ovals.
The reason behind this development program, was to engage girls into a young female friendly develop program for our community club players, which was strongly supported by our football partners SWQ Thunder FC as well.
The day was attended by players from 7 years of age to 11, all clubs in the Toowoomba community were invited and most clubs were well represented on the day.
The day was centred on an all-female coaches which were from the SWQ Thunder FC senior women’s team, u17’s and u/15 players, who were extremely happy giving back to the game that has given them so much.
Plus FQ Women’s and Inclusive Development Officer Ms Sarah Willington, who brought with her the ALDI Miniroos target kicking inflatable and plenty of ALDI fresh fruit and water, all the developing footballer needs to re-hydrate and re-fuel for the 1.5hr training session.
The young players were also privileged to have attending, a local footballer who started her career in the World game here in Toowoomba and is now in her first year as a squad member of the FFA W (Women’s) League ROAR fc – Ms Abbey Lloyd.
Abbey assisted in coaching and signed numerous posters along with the SWQ Thunder FC players’.
We also had a number of coaches who are currently coaching the women’s / girls teams from SWQ Thunder FC as support staff, they included Scott Teakle, Kris Hemmerling, Craig Lockwood and FQ SW Regional Development Officer David Nugent, with help from Nik Hemmerling as well.
